Children at Jubilee learn about a range of religions, in line with the British values of mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and those without faith.
The school’s RE programme of study covers all the major religions several times, with units of work exploring different aspects and marking important festivals at different times of year. We have tailored our curriculum in line with our diverse local area, for example creating special units on Purim and Hanukkah celebrated by our Jewish community, as well as other topics drawn from Hackney’s Agreed Syllabus. Children are introduced to religions in younger year groups, and build on their knowledge with more sophisticated ideas when returning to them in later years.
Visits to local places of worship which deepen children’s understanding are built into the curriculum. We make regular trips to St Thomas’s Church on Clapton Common and the Suleymaniye Mosque on Kingsland Road amongst others.
