Every day is different but routines are also important. Find out what a typical day at Jubilee is like below and with the sample weekly timetables.
The school day begins at 9am, and finishes at 3:30 for all year groups from Reception to Year 6.
Nursery is open from 9am until 3:15pm daily. Children may attend varying hours depending on the place they are offered. More details can be found on our Nursery Admissions page here.
From Reception to Year 6, this equates to 6.5 hours per day. 1 hour is given for lunch, plus 15 minutes in the morning for break. Children in KS1 have an additional short break of 15 minutes in the afternoon. This equates to 32.5 hours per week.
Mornings are usually devoted to our core subjects of Reading (‘Read Write Inc’ phonics in Key Stage 1, the ‘Destination Reader’ programme in Key Stage 2), Maths and English. These subjects are taught daily. Children engage with the main topic in English, often through carefully selected rich texts.
Afternoons are usually used for the other subjects that make up the National Curriculum. Our topic approach means that subjects sometimes vary. We have specialist teachers who provide expert support in PE, Music and Art.
An array of enrichment activities are on offer to children, before, during and after the main school day. These include choirs, instrumental lessons, sports clubs, arts and crafts clubs and gardening groups as well as an alternating range of clubs run by external providers. Popular clubs include fencing, drama and Spanish.
The Reception timetable gradually changes through the year as the children develop in their learning. We start in September with a very play-based timetable, where children will enjoy short teaching sessions together as a class, followed by lots of opportunities to choose their own activities both inside and out through the day. Each day there is a short phonics lesson, a maths lesson, and a topic session. These gradually build up so that by half term in the Autumn, children are grouped for daily phonics. We introduce Forest School sessions in the Autumn term, which cover half a day per week. We cover all the areas of the Early Years through our topic based planning, with our Book of the Week or Artist focus as our starting point. We have weekly P.E and Music sessions in addition to the continuous provision in the Reception classes.

In Nursery, the timetable is play-based, with short teaching sessions at key points in the day. When children arrive into the nursery, they are able to choose from a wide range of activities from every area of learning, both inside and out. We have a snack time each morning, which provides lots of opportunities for learning about health, wellbeing, counting, sorting, speaking, listening, and singing together. Nursery has broad topics that allow for lots of child-led learning in balance with adult-led activities centred around our Book of the Week, which we learn about together in a teaching session each day. We introduce Forest School sessions in the Autumn term.
